Chapter Eight
Fiona could not believe the joy she found in each moment. Angus said they were to wait at the bothy until their Cameron escort arrived, along with her new clothes. He said it would give her time to recover and to get to know her husbands, both inside and out. Heâd leered playfully when he said it before swatting her bare arse.
Sheâd been cuffed, hit, and beaten all her life. Sheâd suffered those blows silently, knowing she was nothing to them. Yet sheâd screeched at the light sting of his swat. Heâd grinned, taking it for the suggestion it was. A moment later she was in his arms with his cock impaling her. Sheâd wrapped her ankles around his hips and ground herself against him until they shuddered in pleasure.
They spent that first day together, touching as often as possible. It rained in the morning, so they lazed on the pallet and spoke of their pasts. She tried to pretend hers wasnât too bad but they saw through her words and cursed her father once more. Their own father, Dougal MacDougal, also wasnât a laird to be proud of. Angus said he wouldnât be surprised if another brother, age twelve or more, showed up at the gate one day. Except for two who resembled their mothers, Gillis and Fin, they all had their fatherâs height, breadth, and dark coloring so it would be easy to tell if the lad spoke true.
Thanks to the eldest, twins Somerled and Niall, the brothers had a stronger sense of restraint than their father. It didnât matter that half were bastards like her. All were MacDougals, had grown up together, and would work for the benefit of the clan. Because Dougal had done so little for them, too busy wenching and plotting ways to use his sons to get vengeance, theyâd pretty much had to raise themselves. Somerled, as the oldest, began acting in place of the laird very early. Heâd taken his position seriously and was always stern and tough. Niall, only a few minutes younger, had a sunny disposition that balanced his brother.
Fiona couldnât imagine the noise sixteen brothers could make if they all wanted a say. With so many born within twelve years, no wonder Somerled had to be stern to keep the lot of them in line. Somehow heâd managed to get some of them fostered out all over the Highlands. Two had even gone to the Earl of Caithness, up in Wick at the far northeast of the country!
The rain finally cleared. Fiona caught two rabbits that day, using a snare, and gathered plants to add flavor to the stew she made. Angus taught her to tickle trout. Gillis gruffly refused to try, which led to the story of his capture. The one time heâd shown patience heâd concentrated so hard on catching a fish that instead heâd been caught by the Campbells. He said the only thing heâd be patient with was his wife, especially when she was naked.
